    • Son of Louisa Allwood (nee Hockings), of 5, Kermode St., Ashburton, and Frank Allwood. AWMM
    • The many friends, especially those in sporting circles, will regret to learn that Quartermaster Terence Jones, son of Mrs J. Jones, of Gisborne, has been killed in action. Enlisting from Auckland with one of the early reinforcements the deceased young man worked his way up from the ranks. He was well known, not only in Gisborne, but throughout New Zealand and in Australia, as one of the most successful hurdle riders and racehorse trainers, a trait that runs in the family. On leaving sohool at Gisborne "Terry" as he was more popularly known, went into the tailoring trade, being employed by Messrs Johnston and Miller. He made rapid progress at the trade, but the call of the stables was not to be denied, and he became associated with his brother, George, the well known trainer (now private trainer for Mr. Stead). His mounts included Such Prominent horses as Paisano, Continuance, Player, Chortle and Cally Bridgde, whilst he was in charge of Paisano and Continuance when those horses visited Australia. The family are bearing their full share in the fight for freedom for in addition to Quartermaster Terence Jones, Jim (who was trainer for W. S. Davidson) and another brother are at the front.
