  • Thank you
    KORO KIPA HOHEPA
    19385 Māori Pioneer Battalion WWI

Thank you Koro for sacrificing your youth and your freedom, even after war, so we could be born.

Thank you Koro for coming home from war in foreign lands with just as much love for your whānau as when you left.

Thank you Koro for self isolating as soon as you landed back in Aotearoa because you didn’t want the first born of your brother to die from the ngangara that the war gave you.

Thank you Koro for choosing not to make a whānau of your own because you knew the importance of protecting te whare tangata.

Thank you Koro for saying no to your brother when he’d write you to say he misses you and wants to see you.

Thank you Koro for still loving your whānau even though you didn’t see them from the time you left as a young man to go to war and until they brought your body home to rest in our urupa.

    And Koro, while you never
