  • James Robert Logan was the eldest of many siblings. He was the provider for them all and for his abandoned mother. They lived out of suitcases, following the work around the Nelson area.

11 June 1917 - Marched into Sling Camp

6 July 1917 - Left for France and was at Etaples until 28 July 1917

28 July 1917 - Joined 2nd Battalion, Canterbury Regiment in the field until admission to hospital

12 September 1917 - Rejoined his unit upon discharge from hospital and was killed in action on 12 October 1917

His death was reported on the casualty list of 12 October 1917 and Rev. Lush reported the burial at Belle Vue Spur, however his body was never identified or possibly even found when it came time to set up the Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites and he is remembered on a memorial. Medals were sent to his father, Mr J.R. Logan. AWMM
