Treasures & Tales online: Volcanoes of Auckland

Here's a recording of the Treasures & Tales online: Volcanoes of Auckland session we held via Facebook Live on Thu 9 Sep 2021.

In this fun, kid-friendly session your tamariki will be captivated by our inspiring learning team as they share knowledge about the volcanic fields, eruption styles and volcanic rocks of Auckland.

Do you know your lava from your magma?

Tāmaki Makaurau was built on a field of around 53 volcanoes. But that doesn’t mean you’re likely to find magma in your garden anytime soon – with the exception of Rangitoto, Auckland’s volcanoes are currently dormant. However, an eruption will happen one day.

Take our volcano quiz and test your knowledge of our city’s fiery past.
