Henry Thomas Norton - Letters

documentary heritage

Contains photocopied material. Typed transcript (photocopy) of a letter from Harry Norton, France, to his wife, dated 11 June 1916.

The following extract is taken from page 90:

"I have been for a stroll & picked two lovely roses, one dark red, & one a lilac rose. As soon as I saw them, my thoughts went home to you, & so I am sending you a few petals, 'The Roses of France'.

Dear old girl, I wish I could give them to you, so sweet & fresh with the raindrops on them. When you look at them, just think I am telling you how much I love you Dearie, and when you kiss them you will get the kisses I have sent to you on them. Oh so many, my Darling. ... I am writing on a book on my knees in my dug-out, & it is necessary to have the candle burning. We have only a small door and very little light gets in, & it is very close & stuffy."
