rubbing tablet
human history
Kupesi Patterned rubbing board. This kupesi is rectangular in shape and thin in depth. The base is made from layers of kaka (coconut sheath) which have been sewn together with pulu 'I niu (coconut husk). On the base there are two rows of four squares which have alternating designs in each square. The designs themselves are formed with tu'aniu (coconut midrib) and are sewn onto the base with pulu'i niu. This kupesi is dark and stained on the front leading us to believe it was a kupesi that was used often.
