Table mat

Tablemat. This is a place mat, double square star shaped, and woven from dark lou akau. Four of the points have straight edging and the remainder have a serrated zig zag edges. Lighter coloured lou akau is used to inlay four flower motifs on the front face of the mat. Table mats like this are often made for tourist trade and to sell at the local markets and roadsides by local village women in Tonga.
