Laulau. Food mat. Made by Mekisa. This laulau is woven from launiu (coconut frond) the rim of the frond makes up the long edge, a section is woven downwards along this edge and the remainder is woven sideways across to the opposite long edge which is plaited from top to bottom. The laulau is dark green and brown in colour, the strips are all of good quality and are firm and malleable. Laulau like these are used as food mats or platters to place food on, these can be used during big occasions or for smaller functions or home meals.
