Ipu tau'ava
Ipu tau'ava. 'Ava serving cup. Ipu (cup) are generally made to serve food, drink and 'ava (kava), this one in particular is one used to serve during 'ava ceremonies. They are made from the muliipu (lower half) of a hollowed out popo (coconut shell) and then scraped and polished to achieve the final product. This ipu tau'ava is round in shape and deep brown in colour, the inside is completely smooth while the outside is still a bit rough. The pointed tip on the underside of the ipu has been reduced to a small ridge and has a hole drilled through one side, where the object tag is attached.
