Yame ni Matau. Adze blade. Yame ni Matau (the tongue of the adze), is carved from vatu (stone) and is grey in colour with red-brown coloured markings across the back of the blade. The Yame ni Matau has an oval cross-section, and has a mild to moderately sharp cutting edge, with a shallow bevel, and with a rounded blade. Yame ni Matau has a moderate level polish all over, with areas of both sides of the blade left flaked.
