Fue sina

human history

Fue sina. White fly whisk. Fue are part of the regal accountrements of high chiefs and orators when they make oratory presentations. This fue has a long thin tapered wooden handle that is attached to a whisk of blonde horse hair. The handle is a deep mahogany colour and has a square carved base and has decorative carving in three sections of the handle that have been inlaid with lime. Fuafuati (bundle of strands in a fue) are made out of long horse hair plaited and strung along a length of cord. This is then wrapped around the top of the handle, and the strands are left loose. There are four rows of white and red string wrapped around the top of the handle where the whisk is attached.
