Au. Thatching awl. This au is cut and polished from a segment of animal bone. It was used in the thatching of rooves of old-style Tokelauan dwellings. The au is curved in profile, cut at a slant and sharpened to a point. It has a highly polished surface treatment. It is light yellow with some discolouration.
