Te Toki a Tapiri, waka taua
GALLERY CLOSED
Te Toki a Tapiri has been carved from totara, and features an elaborately carved tauihu and taurapa. Manaia and wheku figures, all with paua shell inset eyes, are carved along the length of the top-strake, and the gunwales are also carved at intervals. Pitau patterns are carved on each taumanu. Muka has been used for the majority of lashing, although kiekie has been utilised in some places. The waka has been painted red and black.
