human history
Heāphepa. War club. This heāphepa is carved from wood, with the head being diamond in section and wider in diameter than the shaft which is ovoid in section. Widest point is at the top of the head, with white paint smudges visible at this area. Fine deep horizontal incisions are carved across the surface of the head. Collard at the base of the head. The shaft tapers toward the butt and is plain and undecorated. A perforated hole at the grip end for suspension. This heāphepa is dark brown in colour with a glossy patina.
