[Niau]. Basket made from coconut fronds. This is a slim niau hand woven from faniu (coconut fronds). It features a short rectangular base with a braided finish where excess foliage has been cut to create an even selvedge. It is long in depth with short curved sides. The edge along the opening has been finished and portrays a fibrous handle of the same material that has been attached separately to the centre of the longest edges.
