Penu. Stone pounder. This penu (pounder) has been worked and smoothed from ofa'i (stone). It is heavy, with a large circular base with convex pounding surface, rounded at the edges. A large loss is visible at one side of the base. The shaft of the penu is cylindrical in shape though flares out towards the base. The penu is topped with a transverse grip, upturned at each end. A small hole is visible near the centre of the grip. The penu is dark in colour. A faded red sticker is adhered to the pounding surface at bottom of the pounder.
