Te kaneati
Te kaneati. Bonito lure. This is made up of three components: cassis shell, te ira n atu (human hair) and iron metal. The shank is off-white in colour, shaped and smoothed from a cassis shell into a tubular-like form, possibly using an atitai (hard coral stone). One end is more rounded in form with a perforation bored through the shank. The opposite end has more or less a levelled surface with furrows grooved into and around the shank. The furrows assists in lashing the iron point, shank and a small portion of ira n atu together. This is done by wrapping a dark and thick, two-ply te kora te ira n atu around the collective items. This kora te ira n atu is also threaded through the perforation at opposite end of shank and is a further 260mm long.
