Te uninga

human history

Te uninga. Headrest. This is a headrest. It is made from te kaina (pandanus tectorious). It has been cut from the trunk of te kaina. It is cylindrical in form with a vertical section that has been cut away to pertain to the way it stands. It has been hollowed and the interior surface shows the fibrous texture of te kaina. The exterior has been smoothed. Tapered segments along the horizontal edges have been carved out to portray four sections of contact when it stands alone. The grained surface upon the exterior is dappled with small pores and linear marks that run vertical to the trunk. The overall colouring of the uninga is golden yellow however the detail in the grain is more defined through a darker tone of brown. There are also dark brown burnished spots across the exterior. When in use, one would lay their head perpendicular upon the uninga when resting.
