Kai ni ngongo

human history

Kai ni ngongo. Back scratcher. This is a wooden back scratcher carved from ngea (pemphis acidula) wood. It has been carved as one entire piece. It features a long cylindrical wooden handle with a tapered, blunt point at the base of the kai ni ngongo. A small foot has been carved out at the opposite end. A blunt edge forms the end of the foot where the depth extends out towards the handle section. Small nodes throughout the handle define the presence of branches. The grain of the wood runs vertically along the handle. It is mid-brown in colour throughout and matte in surface texture.
