Te binobino

human history

Te binobino. Coconut shell container. This binobino is made from a whole te nana (coconut shell) which is dark brown in colour with a matte surface treatment. It is not strictly spherical in shape. A short tie of te kora (coconut sennit) is attached to the binobino for suspension. It is used for storing te bwa ni kangaraooi (coconut oil). Other scented oils, drinking water or medicinal liquid may have also been stored in a binobino. A scented oil could be custom-mixed as a gift for a particular person and stored in this container to bring good fortune to them.
