It is made with long lengths of five flat 3-ply braided ira n atu (human hair) these are dark in colour. Each braid is sewn side by side, increasing the width of the belt. Each braid is bristly in texture overall as loose ends of invidivual hair strands stray from each braid. One end of the nuota is knotted securely dark orange fabric attached to the other end of the nuota.
