Segment of coconut frond is split longitudinally in half along stem, each half has five leaves attached. Each of these has midrib removed and then split again into five strips creating 50 plaiting strip per half frond segment. With the side of the basket face-on to maker the 25 strips on the left are used as sinistrals and the 25 to the right of these are used as the dextrals. Plaited twill. Braided handles have dyed-red hibiscus fibre incorporated. Roughly diamond in shape. Decorated with turmeric.
