The provenance of a 19th century plaster replica bust of Ferdinand Ritter von Hochstetter (1826–1884) at the Auckland War Memorial Museum (AWMM) is discussed. Early 20th century newspaper records, original Museum paper records and other research were used to point to a likely original source. While Museum digital data recognised that the bust was of Hochstetter no other information was known.
