Malcolm began his research career in the 1980s as a fisheries biologist. He worked extensively on stock assessment of deepwater fish (in particular orange roughy), before broadening his research interests to more general deep-sea ecosystems. He studied seamounts for many years, and headed the Census of Marine Life on Seamounts, a major 6 year international research programme. Read Malcolm's full profile.

Tom head Auckland Museum's Natural Sciences, whose main activities are collection management, collection development, research, and exhibitions and public programmes relating to our collecting areas of botany, entomology, geology, land vertebrates, marine biology and palaeontology. Since moving to New Zealand in 2007, he's focused on the documentation and biogeographic affinities of the regional fish fauna. He's led recent expeditions to document the biodiversity of remote islands in New Zealand (Three Kings and the Kermadec islands) and the regional Pacific region (southern French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Niue and Tonga). Rochelle is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland and runs the Marine Mammal Ecology Group. She uses an inter-disciplinary approach to answering questions about cetacean ecology and collaborates widely to try and resolve some of the conservation issues facing cetaceans from the tropics to Antarctica. As a consequence of the breadth of her research she is a member of several international scientific panels overseeing cetacean research and conservation programmes. Read Rochelle's full profile.
