  • The majority of our staff work within the walls of our 1929 heritage building which has just undergone a significant round of modernisations. Others are based at our Apārangi office just down the road in Newmarket, and some at Manu Taiko, our vast collections store in South Auckland.
  • There are over 4 million collection items in our care.
  • Our Pacific Collection ranks as a major world-class collection
  • Our World (Foreign Ethnology) Collection is the largest and most significant of its type in New Zealand
  • Our Taonga Māori Collection is one of the most significant in New Zealand
  • We have a nationally and internationally significant Documentary Heritage Collection including the personal archive of Sir Edmond Hillary - inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register
