Members: Celebrating Te Rā

Join Dr Kahutoi Te Kanawa, Curator Pou Ārahi Māori, and Nigel Borell, Curator Taonga Māori, for an evening of pop up talks celebrating Te Rā, the only known customary Māori sail in existence, and the sibling sails, Hine Mārama and Tū ki te Rangi, created by Te Rā Ringa Raupā.

Professor Peter de Lange FLS first visited Rekohu the Chatham Islands in February 1996. Since then, he has made over one hundred visits to the islands. In this lecture Peter will outline what we now know, what we still need to know, and critically what is happening to an island that supports over a quarter of Aotearoa New Zealand's threatened species.
