Opportunities for Students and Researchers
Auckland Museum is an ideal site for students to gain experience – from undergraduate through to emerging research professionals. We also seek to partner with established researchers and academics to facilitate the creation of new knowledge through the use of Museum collections.
There are opportunities in a range of areas including:
science and humanities; digital experience; science communication; commercial and event planning; exhibition planning; project management; marketing and communications; heritage conservation; fundraising.
The Auckland Museum Summer Student Programme for 2022-2023 has recently finished. The successful candidates joined other students for ten weeks over the summer to gain career-relevant work experience and have the opportunity to work with Museum professionals to gain an insight into the culture and heritage sector.
Our post-graduate scholarships support high-achieving students who are working closely with Auckland Museum or Auckland Museum collections as part of their research. The projects supported will add value to Auckland Museum collections or museum practice focus and be aligned to the Auckland Museum research strategy.
Auckland Museum’s internships are available to senior undergraduate or postgraduate students for specific projects that support their learning.
For students who want to gain experience working in a Museum or working with a specific Museum collection, a volunteer placement may be of interest.
Auckland Museum works in partnership with The University of Auckland to co-deliver a post-graduate course in Museum Studies, Museums 702.
Research Associates are honorary roles awarded to individuals undertaking research that makes a significant, relevant and ongoing contribution to Auckland Museum.
